The Top 10 Ways to Motivate Yourself to Exercise

The Top 10 Ways to Motivate Yourself to Exercise

Exercise Motivation

I love to keep fit and exercise but there are some days I struggle with the motivation to do it. I have days when I drag my feet and days when everything else seems to be a priority. So on those days I really need certain things to get me motivated and get going. Making your health and wellness a priority is so important. Taking care of yourself and feeling good will help you in so many other areas of your life. So here are 10 things I do to find the motivation to exercise.

1. Motivational Fitness Quotes- If you read my blog very often you know I am a big fan of quotes. There are some great quotes out there on fitness that have helped me. I keep them where I can see them daily. Here are a few of my favorites- “Fitness – if it came in a bottle, everybody would have a great body”. ~Cher and “If your body’s not right, the rest of your day will go all wrong. Take care of yourself. “~V.L. Allinear

2. Remembering the after workout feeling- I know there is no other feeling in the world like the feeling after a good workout. When my motivation is not there I think about that feeling and it gets me going. If you can keep that after workout feeling in your head it will get you more excited to exercise.

3. Make it fun-I try to make exercise fun and put my all into it. I know on the days I am doing exercise I like I am much more likely to want to do it. When it is something I don’t enjoy I find it is harder to motivate myself. If if you don’t know how to make exercise fun, check out my blog post about learning to enjoy exercise and making it part of your life.

4. Rewards-When I reach certain goals I reward myself with a little special something. I like to go have a pedicure since my feet get a little beat up. Think of a nice reward for when you reach your goals to keep you motivated.

5. Visualization- I keep photos of what I am working towards where I can see them everyday. It helps knowing what you want to attain and being able to see it everyday is a good reminder. It pushes me to want to exercise even when I am lacking the motivation.

6. Improved Mood- I could be having the worst day in the world and exercise seems to melt that stress and negativity away. I know if I am in a bad mood I need to workout. When you are in a bad mood push with all your might to get in a good workout and see how you feel after.

7. Keep Track of your Progress- I took photos and measurements before I started getting serious about exercise. That made a huge difference because I can look back and see how far I have come. It helps me on days when I am not motivated because I don’t ever want to go back to that. If you are going to start an exercise program I highly recommend taking photos before hand so you can look back on them and keep pushing yourself forward.

8. New Clothes- Being able to fit into clothes and not feel uncomfortable with the way I look in them is a great motivator for me.

9. Avoiding the feeling I have when I don’t workout- When I don’t workout I struggle. My body drags, I am tired and I seem to be a lot less productive. So on days when my motivation lags I think of how unproductive and gross I feel when I don’t workout.

10. Increase confidence- Even when you have not reached your goals yet but you are exercising regularly it seems to give you more confidence. Because you are taking care of yourself and making your health a priority your confidence is boosted.

I hope these tips help get you motivated. I would love to hear any other things that you do to get yourself motivated to exercise that I did not include here. Leave me a comment and let me know.

Motivation For Exercise And Fitness

Motivation For Exercise And Fitness

Getting into shape and into an exercise routine takes work and motivation.  Some people find it a challenge to do the same thing day in and day out or just get bored and find it hard to stay on track.   If you are bored and unmotivated to exercise here are some things you can do to help you stay on track and reach your fitness goals.

One essential element to keeping up with an exercise and fitness program is having the right motivation.  If you are not motivated and disciplined enough to hang in there and make fintess a habit you will find it hard to see any kind of results.

Motivation does not always happen in an instant.   It is something that has to be worked upon.   Because just as quickly as you find motivation you can lose it.   That is why you need to work  to keep that motivation up before it wanes.

The root behind the right motivation for exercise and training comes from the very reasons why you even wanted to start at all. If you wanted so much to lose weight or to build up a good physique, then that would be your primary motivation to follow an exercise and training program that would help carry out the results that you want. Then all you need to do is to keep reminding yourself every day why you are doing what you do and what you want to get from it.

One way of reminding yourself of the what you are doing to keep the motivation up is learning to have a visual cue of what you want to become after a certain exercise program. If you wish to lose weight, you might want to have a visual image of what you would possibly look like after achieving your goals. You might want to have a poster of the type of figure you wish to have after you have lost the weight you have aspires to let go of.

Another way to keep your motivation up while on an exercise program is by not doing it alone. You might wish to bring along a friend or a colleague at work who might also be after the same fitness goals as you are. This way, you have someone who can push you enough to do better doing the program and vice versa. Having a friend to work out with can help provide you with the necessary motivation that you need to keep going and to strive for your fitness goals.  You also might consider getting a free Beachbody Coach that will help motivate, support and encourage you on your fitness journey.

Another way to keep up your motivation is by simply trying to keep track of your progress. Try to have a record of your previous weight or size and try to keep track of the changes on a weekly basis to give you an account of the pounds that you have lost and the inches that has melted away due to your hard work with exercise and training. Just by keeping track and being aware of the positive changes would even motivate you to do better and reach out for more achievement.  You can use a Free Beachbody account to keep track of your progress.  Sign up for your free account here by scrolling to the bottom right of the page and selecting “Try Free Memebership”.  It is always free unless you decide you want to upgrade.

4 Ways to Keep Your Motivation To Exercise

4 Ways to Keep Your Motivation To Exercise

It seems like so many people out start out with the best of intentions to get in shape and so quickly those ambitions can fade when you get bored, life gets in the way or you are not seeing results fast enough. How many people do you know who had a New Year’s resolution to exercise and by January 10th they are no longer working out? So what are some ways to keep your motivation to exercise?

1. Finding the right workout for you. What is the right workout for you? The best workout is one that you will put your heart and soul into, one that you will get the most out of and most importantly one that you really enjoy. Working out does not have to be boring or feel like a chore. Try out different things until you find the thing that suits you. If you are bored and not seeing results you might not be doing the right exercise for you. I worked out at a gym for years on the tread mill and eliptical and was less than enthused. You could tell by my results that it was not the right thing for me. I found classes I like now and have lost the weight I needed to lose.
2. Get a good music playlist going. I can’t say enough about having good tunes to listen to while working out. The right music just gets you going and should get your energy pumping. Get together a good playlist for when you are exercising and see if that helps your motivation.
3. Set Goals. Set goals that are realistic and reasonable. Don’t try to do too much too fast. If you want to stay motivated it is better to set attainable goals rather than unrealistic goals. You don’t want to lose motivation because you have set unrealistic goals you did not reach.
4. Keep track of your Progress. I find the more I made progress on losing weight and inches the more motivation I had. The more I wanted to continue exercising and the more I wanted to eat better. To see the progress is motivating and makes you want more.

There are so many different ways to exercise. Everyone will vary on what works for them and keeps them motivated. These 4 things should really help most people find success and stay motivated.

How to Motivate Yourself To Workout

How to Motivate Yourself to Work Out

from wikiHow – The How to Manual That You Can Edit

You know you need to work out, but you feel tired, lazy, busy. Or you’ll do it tomorrow (or the day after that…or the day after that). Here are some tips to get you to work out NOW.

Steps

  1. Do something small, right now. Going all the way to the gym, or getting decked out in your jogging gear, or doing whatever it is you feel you should be doing obviously seems like too much work. So just do ten push-ups or jumping jacks. Easy. And usually, it’s just enough to get your heart rate going a little bit, and make you feel like a little more exercise wouldn’t be so bad…
  2. Do a Full Body Workout in Less Than 5 Minutes. Kill the “I don’t have time” excuse by developing a routine that engages every muscle in your body in just a few minutes. You probably won’t Lose Weight or Build Muscle doing this, but it’s better than nothing and, more importantly, it’ll make you feel good about yourself, which will make you feel more motivated to exercise.
  3. Overcome Procrastination Using Self Talk. You’re probably telling yourself something like “I should exercise right now. If I don’t work out, I’m never going to get fit.” This statement has many hidden obstacles. For one thing, feeling like you should do something makes it seem like work, or an obligation. That’s no fun. You’re also thinking about what will happen if you don’t exercise–in other words, you’re threatening yourself with punishment (the image of being unfit). Subconsciously, you’re flooding your mind with negativity. Instead, remember that exercise is a choice, and it’s about whether you want to, or not! And instead of thinking about how you’ll look if you don’t work out, think about how great you’d look if you did!
  4. Get halfway there. If you want to go to the gym, but just don’t feel like it, at least just drive yourself to gym, and tell yourself that if you still don’t feel like working out, you’ll go home. Odds are, though, once you’re there, you won’t feel like driving home. (But if you do, that’s OK too. But you probably won’t.) Then tell yourself you’ll just walk on the treadmill for 10 minutes, even if your exercise routine involves much more. Just telling yourself to do one more thing, without having to commit to anything else, will make things much easier. And before long, your endorphins will take over.
    • If your form of exercise involves going outside, a good first step is to get dressed and just sit outside. A good next step is to walk. You’ll find that once you’re dressed to go and walking, exercise doesn’t seem like such a big stretch.
  5. Hypnotize Yourself Using the Best Me Technique. Hypnosis is a state of intense concentration, when your mind is extremely receptive. The “Best Me Technique” is a form of hyperempiria, or suggestion-enhanced experience, which encourages you to pre-experience the accomplishment of a goal. See the video below for more insights as to how self-hypnosis can help you get motivated to exercise.
  6. Trade weight for cash. A 2007 study showed that the more you pay people to lose weight, the more pounds they drop over a three-month period.[1] If there’s someone who keeps nagging you to lose weight, ask that person about paying you for every pound you lose. If your employer is self-insured, he or she might consider enlisting the services of a company that develops reward programs to encourage employees to lose weight.[2]
  7. Get back on the horse. Have you not exercised for a week? A month? A year? A decade? Who cares? Don’t punish yourself. Don’t think about how hard it is to get fit. Live in the Moment. Do you want to get in shape? Then work out. Eventually, you’ll get momentum going, and you can fine-tune your routine. But that will come naturally, from feeling good about yourself and wanting to take better care of yourself. Until then, just establish in your brain that working it out is a choice, a fun choice.

Tips

  • Have fun! For some people, this means exercising with a friend. For others, it means listening to a certain kind of music. Sometimes it means playing a game of football or soccer instead of using a machine. The biggest roadblock to working out is seeing it as “work”. So think of all the things you have no problem finding the motivation to do outside of work, and find a way to link them together. Do you love to read? Read while you ride a stationary bike. Do you love to dance? Take an aerobically intense dance class, like salsa or swing. Do you love to watch TV? Get a mini stepper to and use it during commercials. Or challenge yourself to do X push-ups or crunches before your favorite show comes back on.
